CD 4017

The CD4017 is a 16-pin CMOS decade counter/divider IC that counts to 10 and provides 10 decoded outputs (Q₀ through Q₉). When an incoming clock signal pulses, it drives the outputs HIGH one by one sequentially. It is famously used for building LED chasers, sequencers, and frequency dividers.

Key Features and Pins
Decade Output: As clock pulses arrive, the outputs go HIGH in order (Q₀, then Q₁, etc.).
Voltage Supply: Operates typically between 3V and 15V (max 18V).
Clock (Pin 14): The counter steps up on the rising edge of the clock signal.
Reset (Pin 15): Resets the counter back to zero when set HIGH.
Clock Inhibit (Pin 13): Disables the clock when HIGH, ignoring any new pulses.
Carry Out (Pin 12): Goes HIGH after 10 clock pulses to trigger additional cascaded counter ICs.
